NGO’s and the media in a globalizing environment.

The thesis describes the interaction between NGO’s and the media in a globalizing environment.┬áThe main question of this study is: how does the relationship between humanitarian NGOs and the media appear to be in an environment of globalisation? The existing literature describes the relationship between NGOs and media through different perspectives. On the one hand it is argued that NGOs are dependent on media for promoting their humanitarian goals and to gain financial support from the public. In this case NGOs use several marketing strategies to obtain media attention. On the other hand it is argued that NGOs function as an information source for the media for accurate information about a crisis. After analysing several studies it can be concluded that additinal emperical research is needed to generate more solid information to support both perspectives. This thesis is in Dutch.
